Understanding Weatherfax by Mike Harris
$16.50

Understanding Weatherfax by Mike Harris ($16.50)

Every so often a thin little book is worth its weight in gold. This is one of them. Armed with it, and a weatherfax chart you have all the essentials for making your own forecast no matter where you are in the world. In 90 short pages it actually teaches you the weather - but that is only half of it. The other half - the computer technical part - is also put to rest. The book explains: sources of weatherfax images; receiving equipment and software; types of weatherfax charts; interpreting synoptic chart features; world weather chart patterns; personal forecasting; tropical storms - their formation, tracking and avoidance. An appendix lists worldwide fax stations with their frequencies, call signs, and transmission schedules.

1997, 90 Pages.

Strike Alert by Outdoor Technologies
$79.00

Strike Alert by Outdoor Technologies ($79.00)

This is the world's first inexpensive personal lightning detector. This kind of security has been available for some time, but until now it has been either too expensive, too cumbersome, or too complicated. Strike Alert's convenient pager sized case allows you to take it with you where ever you go outdoors. Its simple one-switch operation makes it easy for anyone to use. Best of all though, the latest digital technology makes it affordable. An LED display shows lightening strike distance, storm direction, and battery life. When the power switch is set to the tone position, Strike Alert will (in addition to the LED warning) sound a tone relating to the distance of the last strike---up to 40 miles. The higher the pitch, the closer the strike. This way you can track the storm without actually watching the display. Size is 2.9 x 1.9 x .75 inches. Weight is only 2.5 oz.

It operates on 1 AA battery for at least 100 hours

Wireless PC Interface and Sensors

Now you can have a full-featured, weather center for much less than you would expect. Wireless operation means no cable rigging, and super portability. Solar powered sensors means no bothersome battery changing nor missing data due to dead batteries. The manufacturer, Europe Supply, Ltd. has been producing high quality weather systems for discriminating Europeans for several years. Now they have turned toward the American market. We have compared many different weather stations, and believe that their products offer the most value in terms of features and quality that can be found. The Weather Station receives and displays data from a wind sensor, a rain gauge, a pressure sensor, and up to 9 temperature/humidity sensors, all by remote transmission and solar power. A water temperature sensor is available that has a bulb and cable for lowering into a swimming pool or from a boat. The set consists of a receiver with a large LCD display to show all information simultaneously, a wind sensor, Thermo-Hygro sensor, and rain gauge all with 433 MHz transmission, and having solar power, an indoor Thermo-Hygro sensor with 433 MHz transmission battery powered.
