$500 Maintenance and upgrade articles and other sailing features (1,500-3,000 words)
$100-300 Other short pieces along these lines
$250 Brief refit articles and photos (running from 1,000-2,000 words)
$500 Boating couple and boat feature with good photos. This can run 1,500-3,000 words. These articles are almost always assigned and seldom purchased as unsolicited manuscripts.
$700 Boat reviews focused on sailing characteristics, layout and design, pros and cons when considering a purchase (possible trouble spots to watch for, and so on). This can run 1,500-3,000 words. These articles are assigned. Unsolicited boat reviews don't work with us.
$100 Reflections. This is a short, philosophical statement. The kind of stuff that comes to us when we've been "out there" a while (runs 350-750 words)
$500-700 History features. We'd also like stories about specific boat types (such as what's gone on with Ericsons over the years), profiles of designers (the career of Carl Alberg or George O'Day and how the individual influenced what we're sailing today) or about other things such as sail shape and materials, hull shapes, keel shapes, etc. (runs 1,500-4,000 words)
$300-500 Good old vendor articles with good photos (1,000-2,500 words). These articles are usually assigned.
$150 Cruising memories (1,500-2,500 words)
$50 Book reviews (375-450 words). Typically, we send reviewers the books. We don't want unsolicited book reviews.
$200 Simple solutions with photos (500-1,500 words)
$50 Quick and easy projects with illustrations or photos (300-600 words)
$50 Photos (when purchased separately, not as a part of an article)
$75 Artwork (when purchased separately, not as a part of an article)
