Cartwright 40 (Buzzards Bay 40 / Nantucket 40)

Description

The Cartwright 40 (also known as the Buzzards Bay 40 or Nantucket 40 in some references, particularly from 1977 onward) is a heavy-displacement bluewater cruising sailboat designed by Jerry Cartwright (West Coast USA naval architect, focused on seaworthy, short-handed ocean voyagers after his own extensive solo passages). Introduced in 1975, it's a robust, conservative cutter emphasizing stability, simplicity, and capability for long-distance offshore sailing—ideal for single- or double-handed crews with its long keel for excellent tracking, protected cockpit, and solid build.
