Grinde 27
Description
The Grinde 27 (often just called the Grinde) is a classic Danish double-ender designed by Peter Bruun in 1973 as a spacious, family-friendly cruiser with strong IOR half-tonner racing influences, built primarily at the Flipper Scow shipyard (later by Peter Bruun himself) in Denmark from 1974 to 1989, with approximately 580–600 hulls produced—making it a relatively common sight in Scandinavian waters and part of a whale-themed family line including the smaller Marsvin 22/Speakhugger 24 and larger Kaskelot 33. It's renowned for its robust fiberglass construction, excellent seaworthiness in strong winds and waves (smooth motion through chop, handles heavy weather well), high ballast ratio for stiffness, long waterline for speed relative to LOA, and surprising interior volume with no overhangs, suiting coastal/offshore cruising, single-handing (as proven by owners like YouTuber Holly Martin/Wind Hippie on her circumnavigating Gecko), or club racing; it's a fin-keel masthead sloop with transom-hung rudder, often praised as fast, stable, and attractive with a dedicated owner community (Dansk Grinde Klub).
