Hallberg Rassey 31 MKII
Description
The Hallberg-Rassy 31 Mk II is the refined later version of the popular Hallberg-Rassy 31 series, a Swedish bluewater pocket cruiser designed by Germán Frers and built by Hallberg-Rassy Varv in Sweden from 2006 onward (as an update starting from hull #307 of the overall 31 line, which ran 1992–2009 with 356 total hulls; Mk II specifics cover the final years). This fractional sloop features solid fiberglass construction with a lead keel (deep bilge type), skeg-protected rudder for excellent tracking and protection, and a well-balanced hull that delivers smooth, sea-kindly motion—praised for pointing high, going to weather effectively, and providing a comfortable ride in varied conditions. The Mk II upgrades include a sleeker two-spreader rig with a more slender mast profile, an aluminum/teak toe rail without holes for cleaner lines and reduced maintenance, and other minor enhancements for better handling and aesthetics. It's ideal for single-handed or family coastal/offshore cruising, with a spacious yet cozy interior (mahogany joinery, berths for 4–5, practical galley/head, good headroom/storage), teak decks, and fixed windscreen—embodying HR's renowned build quality and seaworthiness in a manageable size.
