Description
The Hallberg-Rassy 49 is a legendary Swedish bluewater cruiser designed by Olle Enderlein (with input from Christoph Rassy) and built by Hallberg-Rassy Varv in Sweden from 1982 to 1997, with only 89 hulls produced—making it a relatively rare and highly coveted classic among serious offshore sailors. This center-cockpit yacht (available in masthead sloop or staysail ketch rig configurations, with ketch being common in early builds) emphasizes ultimate seaworthiness, comfort, and reliability for worldwide cruising or liveaboard use, featuring solid fiberglass construction with a deep fin keel (lead encapsulated in a bilge pocket for protection and stability), skeg-hung rudder, high freeboard, flush deck, protective windscreen/dodger, and generous volume below (multiple cabins, spacious saloon/galley, dual heads, excellent storage/headroom, and teak joinery throughout)—often described as a "yachtsman's yacht" that's capable of ocean passages in comfort and safety.
