Hans Christian 43T

Hans Christian 43T

Description

The Hans Christian 43T (or HC 43T, where "T" stands for "Traditional") is the classic version of the Hans Christian 43 series—a heavy-displacement, double-ender bluewater cruiser designed by Harwood Ives and built in Taiwan (primarily by Ta Shing Yacht Building Ltd.) from the mid-1970s through the early 1990s. The "Traditional" label emphasizes the full long keel, pronounced canoe stern, bowsprit, abundant exterior/interior teak, and traditional aesthetics that define the early Hans Christian lineup. It's often simply called the Hans Christian 43 in listings and databases, with "43T" used to specify the traditional long-keel staysail ketch configuration (as opposed to later "Christina" variants with fin/skeg underbodies and different designers like Scott Sprague). This is a legendary "little ship" for serious offshore and liveaboard cruising: bombproof build, sea-kindly motion, excellent heavy-weather performance (heaves-to superbly), and the ability to carry heavy loads for extended voyages. Many have circumnavigated or spent decades living aboard. It's not fast in light winds (conservative SA/D ratio), but it shines in trades and stronger conditions with a comfortable, predictable ride.
