Hardin Voyager 44/45 (Bounty 44)
Description
The Hardin sailboats refer primarily to a line of classic, heavy displacement bluewater cruising yachts built by Hardin International (founded by R.W. Hardin) in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, from 1977 to 1988 (the company is no longer in business). These are traditional, teak-heavy fiberglass designs emphasizing comfort, stability, and offshore capability rather than speed—often center-cockpit staysail ketches with long keels, abundant interior woodwork, and a "little ship" aesthetic similar to Hans Christian, Island Trader, or early Tayana models (many Hardin-built hulls were marketed under various importer names like Bounty 44 or Voyager 45). The most prominent and numerous model is the Hardin 44/45 (also known as Hardin Voyager 45 or Hardin 45 after a redesign around 1980; originally imported as Bounty 44), a staysail ketch (some cutter-rigged) renowned for solid construction, predictable motion in heavy weather, excellent load-carrying for liveaboard cruising, and short-handed ease. Related models from the same yard include the Sea Bird 37, Sea Wolf 40, and some shared hulls with the Island Trader 45 (different deck/coachroof but similar underbody).
