HELMS 22
Description
The Helms 22 is a compact, trailerable daysailer/racer built by Helms Yachts (Jack A. Helms Co., Irmo, South Carolina, USA) in the late 1970s to early 1980s, as part of their small line of affordable fiberglass monohulls (the company produced 600–800 boats total before closing in the 1980s, focusing on models like the Helms 24, 25, and 27). It's a swing keel (centerboard) design with a masthead sloop rig, popular among trailer-sailors for its shallow draft when up, easy launch/haul, and decent club racing or daysailing performance—similar in spirit to the Catalina 22 but with regional (Southeast US) appeal and some owner reports of solid build quality for the era.
