Heritage 1 Ton (Heritage 37)
Description
The Heritage 1 Ton (also called Heritage 1 Ton or Heritage 37) is a fiberglass IOR One Ton class racer/cruiser designed by renowned American naval architect Charles Morgan and built by his Heritage Yacht Corp. (Clearwater, Florida, USA) starting in 1975. This model was distinct from Morgan's earlier Morgan 36T/One Ton, reflecting updated IOR rule interpretations with a focus on refined performance and offshore capability; production was limited to approximately 20 hulls before the factory was lost to a fire, which also destroyed much of the original documentation, making surviving examples relatively rare classics still sailed and occasionally raced today. Features include a powerful masthead sloop rig optimized for strong winds (excels in big breeze while remaining controllable), fin keel with spade rudder for responsive handling, wide beam for added stability and interior space, robust "built like a tank" construction with heavy scantlings, and a functional though racing-oriented interior (sleeps 6-8 with berths, galley, head) suitable for serious offshore racing, coastal cruising, or club events.
