Heritage 35 (Canada)
Description
The Heritage 35 (often specified as Heritage 35 Canada to distinguish it) is a fiberglass cruising sailboat designed by the American firm McCurdy & Rhodes as a comfortable cruiser-racer, first built in 1974 by Heritage Yacht Builders Co. Ltd. in Oakdale, Ontario, Canada. Production was limited, with only about 14 hulls completed by 1977 (some sources suggest around 15 built in the Toronto area during the mid-1970s); the molds were sold to Grampian Marine in 1976, but Grampian ceased operations before producing additional boats, making surviving examples relatively scarce classics. Features include a masthead sloop rig with a generous sail plan for strong light-air performance, a fin keel (draft around 5' 6") paired with a skeg-mounted rudder for good directional stability and handling, robust fiberglass construction, a moderate beam for stability (comfort ratio ~33, low capsize screening ~1.70), and a practical interior layout suitable for coastal or extended cruising (accommodations for 6, galley, head, and settees).
