Holby Tripp 37
Description
The Holby Tripp 37 (also known as the Tripp 37 or Holby Marine Tripp 37) is a fiberglass racer/cruiser designed by William H. Tripp III (Bill Tripp Jr.) and built by Holby Marine (Bristol, Rhode Island, USA) from approximately 1984 to 1989. Holby Marine, founded by Barrett Holby, was known for high-quality custom and semi-custom fiberglass yachts with advanced construction techniques (e.g., Divinycell foam-cored hulls/decks, aluminum structural grids for strength/rigidity). Production was limited to about 9 hulls (per owner/forum reports from the era), reflecting its niche as a post-IOR performance-oriented boat (one step down from One Ton class designs, popular in Long Island Sound and club racing circuits). Features include a high-aspect masthead sloop rig for excellent upwind performance and speed in varied conditions, fin keel with spade rudder for responsive handling and low wetted surface, solid yet lightweight build emphasizing durability and speed (some examples repowered for hybrid/electric cruising), a functional racing/cruising interior (teak accents, berths for 6-7, galley, head, and comfortable cockpit with bench seating for 4-6), and proven offshore capability (e.g., examples with 10,000+ nm of East Coast/Caribbean miles, good stability, and seaworthy characteristics).
