Horizon 27 (Halman 27)
Description
The Horizon 27 (also known as the Halman Horizon or Halman 27) is a Canadian pocket cruiser designed by Michael Volmer—who also served as CEO of the builder—for comfortable coastal and inland sailing, with production by Halman Manufacturing Co. in Beamsville, Ontario, beginning in 1982 and totaling just 42 boats before the company wound down operations in the late 1980s/early 1990s. It was constructed of solid fiberglass with wood trim for durability and low maintenance, featuring a fixed fin keel (draft 4.00 ft / 1.22 m), skeg-mounted rudder, displacement of approximately 7,000–7,011 lb (3,175–3,180 kg) with 2,250–2,253 lb (1,021–1,022 kg) ballast, a masthead sloop rig (with a few examples built as cutters for added heavy-weather versatility), generous interior volume and standing headroom for its size, a factory Volvo (or later Yanmar) diesel auxiliary (9–15 hp), 10 gal fuel and 30 gal water capacity, and strong tracking/stability suited to gunkholing and family cruising.
