Hummingbird

Hummingbird

Description

The Hummingbird 30 is a British fiberglass masthead sloop cruiser-racer designed by David Thomas, sharing the same hull as the Elizabethan 30 but featuring a modified deck with a larger coachroof for improved interior volume and headroom. Built by Hummingbird Yachts / Peter Webster Ltd. (UK) from 1978 (first built) into the early 1980s, it was constructed with GRP (fiberglass) for solid, low-maintenance durability, emphasizing balanced performance with a fin keel, tiller steering (aft cockpit), and suitability for coastal cruising, club racing, or short-handed sailing—often described as a capable, no-nonsense design with good sailing characteristics in varied conditions. Production was limited (exact quantity not widely documented but considered a small series, likely dozens of hulls based on similar era UK designs), with examples still actively sailed and occasionally listed for sale in the UK and Europe.
