Hurricane 30
Description
The Hurricane 30 is a classic wooden sloop class from the post-WWII era, designed and built by Nunes Bros. Boatyard in Sausalito, California, starting in the late 1940s. It was produced as a limited series of wooden yachts (hull numbers indicate 17 boats built across the 1940s and 1950s), emphasizing traditional construction with a sloop rig, good sailing performance for coastal and bay use, and timeless lines suited to club racing or day/weekend cruising—examples like "RANDOM" (hull #7, built 1949) highlight the class's enduring appeal among wooden boat enthusiasts. Construction used wood (likely carvel or similar plank-on-frame for the period), with features including a moderate displacement for stability, auxiliary power options in some hulls, and responsive handling praised in registries. Production was small and ceased after the initial run, making surviving examples rare and often maintained or restored as classics today.
