IMS 45
Description
The IMS 45 most commonly refers to the C&C 45 (also explicitly called the C&C 45 IMS or IMS 45 in some contexts), an American high-performance racer-cruiser designed by William H. Tripp III for C&C Yachts (C&C International Yachts Ltd., later under various ownership phases). Introduced in 2000, it was developed specifically to optimize under the International Measurement System (IMS) rating rule popular in the late 1990s/early 2000s for competitive offshore and inshore racing, while still offering reasonable cruising comforts. Built with advanced composite construction (often vacuum-bagged or infused for lightness and strength), it features a fractional sloop rig (some sources note masthead options in variants), a deep fin keel with bulb for stability and upwind prowess, spade rudder, aggressive fine-entry bow, wide aft sections for planing/downwind speed, and a spacious cockpit with minimal coachroof for reduced weight and better ergonomics—emphasizing responsive handling, low heeling angles, and versatility for short-handed or full-crew use in events like regattas or distance races. Production was limited (dozens built, as a semi-custom/performance-oriented model rather than high-volume production), with examples competing successfully in IMS/ORC classes before the rule's decline in favor of IRC.
