Jomar 55 Stsl Ketch
Description
The Jomar 55 STSL Ketch is a custom-built bluewater cruising ketch based on a Bruce Roberts design (specifically the Bruce Roberts 550 or a closely related plans series, known for robust offshore capability). It was professionally constructed by Jomar Company (or Jomarco Boats/Shipyard, a small custom yard in Santa Ana, California, USA) in the 1980s (examples from ~1982–1998 noted in sales records). The design draws from Roberts' popular amateur/professional build plans, featuring heavy fiberglass (GRP) hull construction for strength and impact resistance, a center cockpit layout for protection and comfort, full or long keel for excellent tracking and stability in heavy seas, and a ketch rig (or cutter in some hulls) for easy sail management during extended voyages. It emphasizes load-carrying ability, spacious interiors (often multiple cabins, large saloon/galley, navigation area, and substantial tankage), and seaworthiness suited to serious ocean cruising or liveaboard use—often described as "high-end custom" and "one of the best" from Roberts' lineup in owner/broker comments. Production was very limited (plans-based/custom; only a handful of hulls built by Jomarco, not mass-produced).
