Kalik 33 Standard Rig
Description
The Kalik 33 is a Belgian fiberglass cruiser-racer designed by Jacques de Ridder and built by Lewin/FF Boats (or associated yards like Jachtwerf Vennekens in Belgium) starting in 1977. Originally conceived as an IOR 3/4-ton racer, it evolved into a capable family cruiser with strong performance, later variants sold as Kalik 103, Q33, or Ocean 33 for charter trade. It features a fin keel with spade rudder for responsive handling and good upwind ability, solid GRP construction for durability, a masthead sloop rig (standard rig is the base configuration with moderate sail area; tall rig versions increased P/E for more power), and practical accommodations (typically 2 cabins/sleeps 5–7, galley, head, and good storage for coastal/offshore use). It's praised for fast, stable sailing with a comfortable motion, generous beam for its era (spacious interior), and reliability—often called a "nimble" or "very spacious" boat compared to contemporaries. Production was moderate (dozens to low hundreds built in the late 1970s–1980s before phasing out), with surviving examples still sailed and occasionally listed as well-maintained classics.
