Kenner Privateer 26
Description
The Kenner Privateer 26 (also known as the Privateer 26) is an American fiberglass pocket cruiser designed by Thomas C. Gillmer (a naval architect known for traditional, seaworthy designs including larger schooners and bugeye-inspired hulls) and built by Kenner Boat Company (Kenner, Louisiana, USA) from approximately 1966 to the mid-1970s. It was constructed with solid fiberglass for durability and low maintenance, featuring a long keel for excellent directional stability and tracking in rough conditions, a cutter rig (with some ketch variants built), and a compact but practical interior suitable for coastal cruising or family use (good headroom, basic galley/berths, and storage). The design emphasizes reassuring stability, a generous sail plan for light-air performance, and classic aesthetics—often praised as a "serious cruiser" in its class despite its modest size, with owners appreciating its sea-kindly motion and ability to handle varied weather. Production was limited (estimates suggest around 50–100 hulls total, including ketch versions, before the company shifted focus), making surviving examples rare classics today.
