Kettenburg K-41
Description
The Kettenburg K-41 (also referred to as the K-41 or Kettenburg 41) is a classic American fiberglass performance cruiser designed by Paul Kettenburg (of Kettenburg Marine in San Diego, California) and built by Kettenburg Boats from the mid-1960s (first hulls around 1966–1967) into the early 1970s. It was part of the "K" series (following the K-38 and preceding larger models like the K-43/46/50), with a fiberglass hull (often with mahogany cabin sides for aesthetics) and heavy construction emphasizing seaworthiness, speed, spacious accommodations, and excellent seakeeping for serious coastal/offshore cruising or racing (e.g., Southern California events like the Mazatlan Race). The design features a substantial yacht layout (generous sail plan for light-air performance, comfortable motion, high headroom in the main cabin, forward V-berth, nav station, and storage), with some hulls (e.g., the last built) serving as Paul Kettenburg's personal yacht with custom upgrades like extra ballast. Production was limited (likely dozens of hulls total, with a registry tracking examples like hull #1 "Tomboy"/"Elixir," #3 "Aslan," #17 "Koan," and others), making surviving boats rare and highly regarded.
