Kings Cruiser 29

Kings Cruiser 29

Description

The Kings Cruiser 29 (also known as the King's Cruiser 29) is a classic Swedish fiberglass (or early wooden) masthead sloop cruiser designed by Tord Sundén (a noted Swedish naval architect associated with the fiberglass Folkboat and other efficient, seaworthy designs). The original wooden Kings Cruiser 28 (fractional rig) was built at the Strobro yard in Sweden in the 1950s, but the fiberglass Kings Cruiser 29 (masthead rig) was introduced in 1968 and built by Åbo Shipyard (Turku/Åbo, Finland) under Fiskars AB (later associated with Bellena Marine in some markets). It gained popularity in Europe and the US (wooden version debuted at the 1955 NY Boat Show), praised for high-quality construction, reasonable pricing, seaworthiness, and a comfortable yet compact interior for its size—suitable for family coastal cruising, club racing, or short offshore passages (e.g., cross-Channel or Baltic use). The fiberglass version emphasized durability and low maintenance while retaining the original's balanced lines and performance.
