Kiwi 40
Description
The Kiwi 40 (specifically the Kiwi 40FC, where "FC" stands for Farr Class40 or similar) is a high-performance Class 40 racing sailboat designed by Farr Yacht Design (Bruce Farr) and built by Cookson Boats (New Zealand) and later Hakes Marine (USA) or similar yards. Launched in 2010 (first hulls like "Privateer" or "BT Boats" prototype in Auckland), it complies with the Class 40 rule (Category 0 offshore capable, 40 ft max LOA, strict limits on materials/cost for accessible ocean racing). The design prioritizes low drag, forgiving handling, deep running performance, and integration of modern features (e.g., twin rudders, bulb keel, carbon rig options) for events like transat races, Fastnet, Atlantic Cup, and circumnavigations (several Kiwi 40FC hulls have completed major offshore passages). It's semi-custom/limited production (dozens built worldwide since 2010, with ongoing semi-custom builds), emphasizing durability, speed, and reliability for shorthanded or fully crewed ocean racing—often described as one of the most successful Class 40 platforms of its generation.
