Description
The Kadey-Krogen 38 (often called the Krogen 38) is an American bluewater cruising sailboat designed by James Krogen (a naval architect better known for his luxury trawler designs, but who created this as one of his few sailboats) and built by Kadey-Krogen Yachts (or associated yards in the US) starting in 1982. It was produced in limited numbers (likely dozens of hulls total, with some sources noting around 30–50 built before the line ended in the mid-1980s), emphasizing heavy, overbuilt construction for offshore durability, tandem centerboards (or long keel version drawing 5 ft) for shallow-draft versatility (ideal for gunkholing in the Bahamas/Florida Keys while maintaining performance), a cutter rig for heavy-weather sail handling, and a spacious, comfortable interior suited to extended cruising or liveaboard use (center cockpit, good headroom, multiple berths, galley, and ample tankage). It's praised as a "beautiful boat" with excellent seakeeping, stability, and load-carrying ability—often called one of the best shoal-draft cutters for Bahamas/Florida waters, though some note it's more cruiser than racer.
