Luders 33
Description
The Luders 33 (also known as the Allied Luders 33) is a classic, full-keel cruiser-racer designed by renowned American naval architect Alfred E. "Bill" Luders Jr. (of Luders Marine Construction fame) and built by Allied Boat Company (Catskill, New York) from 1966 to 1974, with 107 hulls produced. It's a traditional, heavy-displacement fiberglass monohull emphasizing seaworthiness, a dry ride, and solid construction (thick fiberglass typical of the era), with a long encapsulated keel for stability and grounding forgiveness, a masthead sloop rig, and a practical interior (typically 4–6 berths with V-forward, saloon settees, galley, enclosed head, and headroom around 6'). Popular in its time for club racing, coastal cruising, or offshore passages, it's praised for forgiving handling, good motion in a seaway, and durability—though moderate in very light air (needs breeze to reach hull speed ~6–7 knots) and not as fast as lighter fin-keel designs. There's an active Luders 33 Association (luders33.com) with owners sharing tips, events, and resources
