Luger 26 Tradewinds
Description
The Luger Tradewinds 26 (also called Tradewinds 26 (Luger)) is a lightweight, trailerable fiberglass cruiser-racer built by Luger Industries (Burnsville, Minnesota, USA) from 1975 to 1990. Offered as a kit (owner-assembled interior/deck fittings) or factory-completed, it features a swing keel (cast iron with lead insert) for shallow draft/trailering/beaching, a fractional sloop rig optimized for light-to-moderate winds, a roomy cockpit (seats 4–6), and a basic cabin (V-berth forward + settees sleeping 4–5, small galley/heads). Known for its fast, fun performance (ultralight displacement for quick acceleration/planing), ease of handling, and affordability as a coastal daysailer/weekender—though owners note low initial stability (tender if capsized) and it's not rated for heavy offshore use (better as a protected-water/coastal cruiser). Many are still sailed/restored today, with active discussions in small-boat forums.
