Macgregor 26 Classic (26D)

Description

The MacGregor 26 Classic (also known as the MacGregor 26D -- the D stands for daggerboard) is a highly popular, trailerable water-ballast sailboat built by MacGregor Yachts (California, USA) from 1986 to 1995. It was the original water-ballast model in the MacGregor 26 series, designed by Roger MacGregor as an affordable, versatile family cruiser that combines sailing performance with easy trailering and motoring (capable of planing under power). The defining feature is its water ballast system (485 lb capacity in tanks under the cabin sole), which fills/drains via a scoop or pump for stability when sailing and light weight when trailered (dry weight ~2,350 lb). It's known for its spacious interior (sleeps 6 in V-berth + convertible dinette + aft berth), large cockpit, and surprising speed for its size in moderate winds, though it sails best with ballast full and requires active crew to avoid tenderness in gusts.
