Magnifik Midget
Description
The Magnifik Midget is a classic Swedish pocket cruiser designed by Bruno Boström in the mid-1960s. It originated from a larger wooden one-off called "Magnifik" (8.5 m) that won races, leading to a scaled-down fiberglass production version called the Magnifik Midget (meaning "Magnificent Midget" in Swedish). Built primarily by Johnson Batar AB (Sweden) from 1966 to 1981 (with molds later used by Monark-Crescent AB and others in Denmark/Norway/Finland), approximately 640 hulls were produced—making it one of Sweden's more successful small cruisers of the era. It's a compact, long-keel fiberglass boat designed for safe coastal cruising, forgiving beginner mistakes, and occasional racing. The long keel provides excellent directional stability and grounding forgiveness, while the masthead sloop rig is simple and powerful enough for light winds. Many were semi-kit builds (factory hull/deck + owner interior), leading to varying fit-out quality. It's known as a "little cutie" with surprising capability—stable, dry, and seaworthy for its size—but small and basic (no toilet in many, limited headroom ~5'8"–6', sleeps 4 in V-berth + settees).
