Maine Cat 30
Description
The Maine Cat 30 is a high-performance cruising catamaran designed and built by Dick Vermeulen through Maine Cat (Waldoboro, Maine, USA) starting in 1996 (first hulls launched around 2001). It's a semi-custom, limited-production model (dozens built) emphasizing lightweight vacuum-bagged CoreCell foam-core construction for speed and efficiency, a low-slung bridge deck to reduce windage/weight, twin daggerboards for adjustable draft (2 ft up for shallow access/beaching, 5 ft down for upwind performance), twin outboard engines (9.9 hp each standard), and an open, convertible cockpit/bridge deck area that can enclose for weather protection. The boat is optimized for fast, comfortable family cruising with excellent stability, low heeling, and good motion in a seaway—often praised as a "kick-your-shoes-off" pocket catamaran with surprising speed (10–15+ knots possible) and shallow draft for gunkholing.
