Maine Peapod

Maine Peapod

Description

The Maine Peapod by Arch Davis is a 12-foot traditional-style peapod designed specifically for amateur builders. It's a modern take on the classic Maine peapod (a double-ended, flared-side rowing boat with origins in 19th-century coastal workboats), optimized for good looks, simple and lightweight construction, respectable performance under oars, and the option to add a sailing rig (lug or spritsail). Arch Davis (of Arch Davis Design in Belfast, Maine) created it to be easy to build using plywood and epoxy, with excellent rowing characteristics and a charming appearance. This design is popular among homebuilders for its forgiving nature, stability in chop, and versatility—great for rowing on lakes/ponds, as a tender, or light sailing in protected waters. Many builders add a small lug sail for fun, though it's primarily a rowing boat.
