Description
The Mariner 31 (also known as the Far East Mariner 31 or Mariner 31 Ketch in some listings) is a heavy-displacement, full-keel ketch designed for offshore cruising and built by Far East Yachts (Japan) starting in the early 1970s, with a limited production run (likely dozens of hulls, as it's a semi-custom or low-volume model; exact count not widely published). The fiberglass hull was the first of its kind from the yard (decks and cabin trunk plywood covered with fiberglass), featuring a traditional ketch rig for balanced, short-handed sail handling in heavy weather, a cut-away forefoot full keel for good tracking and grounding forgiveness, and a comfortable, sturdy interior suitable for liveaboard or extended passages—prized for its "tiny but powerful" seaworthiness, dry ride, and proven bluewater capability (many examples have logged significant ocean miles).
