Mariner 36 Ketch
Description
The Mariner 36 Ketch (also known as the Mariner 36 (Garden)) is a heavy-displacement, full-keel bluewater ketch designed by William Garden (with construction oversight by Clair Oberly) and built in fiberglass by Ta Yang Yacht Building Co. Ltd. (Taiwan) under the Far East Yachts label starting in 1972, with production continuing into the 1980s in limited numbers (exact hull count low, likely in the dozens to low hundreds due to the era's semi-custom approach). It features robust fiberglass construction with a long encapsulated keel for exceptional directional stability and grounding forgiveness, a traditional masthead ketch rig for balanced short-handed sail handling in heavy weather, and a comfortable, spacious interior suited for extended offshore cruising or liveaboard use—prized for its seaworthiness, dry ride, and proven capability in rough conditions (many examples have logged significant ocean miles).
