Mariner 39 (Fairweather 39)
Description
The Mariner 39 (also known as the Fairweather Mariner 39 or Mariner 39 Perry) is a robust, bluewater-capable cutter designed by renowned American naval architect Robert H. Perry (often credited as Bob Perry) and built by Ta Shing Yacht Building Ltd. in Taiwan starting in 1981 (originally commissioned by Westsail but few built under that name; hulls were laid up in the US and finished in Taiwan). Production was limited (dozens of hulls total across variants), with later examples marketed under Fairweather Marine or private labels—prized as a heavy, sea-kindly cruiser with a cut-away forefoot modified fin keel and skeg-hung rudder for excellent tracking and protection, a traditional cutter rig for short-handed versatility in heavy weather, and a spacious, teak-finished interior (typically 3 cabins/2 heads, large saloon/galley, centerline aft cabin in many, good headroom/storage). It's celebrated for its build quality, dry ride, and proven offshore performance (many circumnavigations), though moderate in very light air.
