Mason 38 Ketch
Description
The Mason 38 Ketch (also known as the Mason 38 or Mason 38 (Garden) in some references) is a heavy-displacement, full-keel bluewater ketch designed by William Garden (with construction oversight by Clair Oberly) and built in fiberglass by Ta Shing Yacht Building Co. Ltd. (Taiwan) under the Far East Yachts/Mariner label starting in the late 1970s, with production continuing into the 1980s in very limited numbers (exact hull count low, likely in the dozens due to the semi-custom, high-end nature of the yard). It features robust fiberglass construction with teak decks and joinery, a long encapsulated keel for exceptional directional stability and grounding forgiveness, a traditional masthead ketch rig for balanced short-handed sail handling in heavy weather, and a spacious, comfortable interior suited for extended offshore cruising or liveaboard use—prized for its seaworthiness, dry ride, reassuring stability, and timeless lines that evoke a larger classic yacht.
