Description
The Mason 43 Ketch is a classic, heavy-displacement bluewater cruiser designed by Al Mason (naval architect for Pacific Asian Enterprises/PAE) and built by Ta Shing Yacht Building Co. Ltd. (Taiwan) from the mid-1980s to early 1990s, with a limited production run (exact hull count low, likely in the dozens due to the semi-custom nature). It features solid fiberglass construction (hand-laid to high Lloyd's specifications with full-length longitudinal stringers), a long encapsulated keel for exceptional directional stability and grounding forgiveness, a traditional masthead ketch rig for balanced short-handed sail handling in heavy weather, and a spacious, well-finished teak interior suited for extended offshore cruising or liveaboard use—prized for its seaworthiness, dry ride, reassuring stability, and timeless lines that evoke a larger yacht.
