Matilda 20
Description
The Matilda 20 is a 20‑foot trailerable pocket cruiser designed by George Hinterhoeller and built by Matilda Sailboats Ltd. in Ontario, Canada, beginning in the early 1970s. Around 600–700 boats were produced, making it one of Canada’s more successful small cruising sailboats. Known for its roomy interior, generous freeboard, and excellent stability, the Matilda 20 features a swing‑keel or shoal‑keel option, a simple masthead sloop rig, and solid fiberglass construction. Its ease of trailering, forgiving handling, and surprising interior volume—including sitting‑headroom and space for a small galley and head—made it a popular choice for families and new sailors seeking a capable small cruiser.
