MC Scow

MC Scow

Description

The MC Scow is a 16‑foot racing dinghy designed by Melges Boat Works (Harry C. Melges Sr.) and first introduced in 1956. Built originally in wood and later in fiberglass, it has become one of the most successful and widely sailed scow‑class boats in the United States, with over 2,000 boats produced. The MC Scow is known for its simple rig, powerful sail plan, exceptional upwind speed, and highly competitive one‑design racing fleet. Features include twin bilgeboards, a wide and stable scow hull, a large cockpit, and modern refinements such as mylar sails, carbon spars, and updated controls in later boats. The class remains very active, supported by the MC Sailing Association and Melges’ ongoing production.
