McVay Minuet
Description
The McVay Minuet is a compact 18‑foot pocket cruiser designed by Stanley “Stan” McVay and built by McVay Fiberglass Yachts Ltd. in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, beginning in the late 1960s. Known for its traditional styling, full‑keel stability, and impressive interior volume for its size, the Minuet was marketed as a comfortable micro‑cruiser capable of protected‑water and modest coastal sailing. Construction was solid hand‑laid fiberglass with wood trim, and production ran into the several hundred hulls, making it one of McVay’s most successful designs alongside the Bluenose One‑Design and the Falcon. Features include a full keel with attached rudder, masthead sloop rig, a surprisingly roomy cabin with berths for two, shoal draft, and very forgiving handling—ideal for beginners and relaxed cruising.
