McGinnis 24
Description
The McGinnis 24 is a lightweight 24‑foot plywood/epoxy performance sailboat designed by Paul McGinnis, an American designer known for fast, easily‑built wooden racing craft. Produced in small batches during the late 1970s and early 1980s, and also available as plans for home builders, the McGinnis 24 saw fewer than a few dozen professionally produced hulls, with additional amateur builds. The design emphasizes speed, simplicity, and light displacement, using a narrow hull, fin keel, transom‑hung rudder, and a powerful masthead sloop rig. Construction featured plywood panels over stringers with fiberglass reinforcement, giving excellent stiffness for weight. The boat’s defining features include lively performance, minimal cruising accommodations, and a race‑oriented deck layout suited for club and coastal competition.
