Mercator 30 Offshore with Bowsprit

The Mercator 30 Offshore is a variant of the classic Mercator 30 (also known as the Offshore 30 or Mercator Offshore 30), a 30-foot coastal cruiser built in fiberglass by Mercator Industries (Kent, Washington, USA) from the late 1960s into the early 1980s, with exactly 38 hulls produced. Early boats were molded by designer Neil Parmentier and sold as bare hulls; around 1970, Parmentier collaborated with Sieg Brunnenkant for further development, leading to the Mark II version with a fiberglass rounded house and coaming (vs. earlier squared wooden house). The "Offshore Mark II Bowsprit" designation in sail databases specifically highlights hulls fitted with a bowsprit (likely for extended sail area or anchor handling), though not all Mercator 30s had one—some Mark II examples feature it for better forestay leverage or a traditional look, as seen in owner blogs (e.g., renewing bowsprit chainplates) and listings. Also known as MERCATOR 30. Early boats were molded by Neil Parmentier himself and sold as bare hulls. Sometime around 1970, Parmentier, collaborating with Sieg Brunnenkant, redesigned the hull, created a mold for a new deck and coachroof (MkII version) and founded Mercator Industries. In 1973, Parmentier sold his interest to Brunnenkant who continued to build the boats until 1981.
