Mercer 44 Sloop

Mercer 44 Sloop

Description

The Mercer 44 Sloop is a classic American bluewater cruiser designed by William H. Tripp Jr. (one of his most respected designs, often called the "Mercer 44" or "Tripp 44") and built by Mercer Marine (a small custom yard in New Jersey, USA) in the early to mid-1960s, with only a very limited number of hulls produced (likely 5–10, as it was a semi-custom or one-off series rather than high-volume production). It features a sleek, modern-for-its-time hull with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder for balanced handling and protection, a powerful masthead sloop rig optimized for performance in moderate-to-strong winds, and a comfortable, traditional interior suited for extended coastal or offshore cruising—prized for its excellent sailing characteristics, dry ride, and proven seaworthiness (many examples have logged significant ocean miles).
