MG C27 (Contessa 27)
Description
The MG C27 (also known as MGC27 or MG-C27) is a British cruiser-racer originally built as the Contessa 27 (designed by David Sadler and produced by Jeremy Rogers Ltd. from the early 1970s). In 1985, the molds and design rights were purchased by MG Yachts (UK), who continued production under the MG C27 name until around the late 1980s/early 1990s, with approximately 50 hulls built in this later run (total Contessa 27/MG C27 production exceeds 200 across both builders). It features solid fiberglass construction, a fin keel (or optional lifting keel variant with draft 3.16'–5.83'), a fractional sloop rig for responsive and balanced handling, and a compact but practical interior (sleeps 4–6, galley, heads) suited for family coastal cruising or club racing—widely regarded as fast, agile, and "sparky" with excellent light-to-moderate wind performance, predictable manners, and a reputation for punching above its weight.
