Moody 471 Custom
Description
The Moody 471 Custom is a semi-custom variant of the Moody 47 series, designed by Bill Dixon and built by A.H. Moody & Sons Ltd. (Southampton, UK) in the mid-to-late 1980s (production overlapped with the standard Moody 47/471 from 1982–1989, with the "Custom" tag denoting specific owner-requested modifications like a built-in transom bathing platform, teak decks, or other bespoke fit-outs; hull count for the custom versions is very low, likely single digits within the overall ~100 Moody 47/471 hulls). It features a robust fiberglass hull with a fin keel and rudder on skeg for balanced handling and protection, a masthead sloop rig (some with taller masts or in-mast furling) for good performance, and a spacious center-cockpit layout (typically 3 cabins/2 heads, large saloon/galley) with excellent headroom and storage—highly regarded for its seaworthiness, dry ride, solid build quality, and comfort in coastal or offshore conditions.
