Mouse Pram
Description
The Mouse Pram is a delightful small pram dinghy designed by renowned Scottish naval architect Iain Oughtred. It's his modern interpretation of the classic pram (transom-bowed) tender/dinghy, drawing from traditional designs across periods and regions but simplified for plywood construction (clinker/lapstrake style with fewer strakes, chined hull). The Mouse Pram is praised for being nimble, stable for its tiny size, easy to row or sail, and an excellent yacht tender, beginner trainer, or kids' boat—light enough to cartop, launch single-handed, and handle shallow water or light chop with grace. It's popular among wooden boat enthusiasts for homebuilding (stitch-and-glue or glued-lapstrake options), with a reputation for lively performance under sail and excellent rowing characteristics. Many builders note it's forgiving yet rewarding, making it a great first wooden boat project.
