Multichine 28
Description
The Multichine 28 (also occasionally listed or misspelled as Multishine 28 in some sail databases like Good Old Boat/Saildata) is a popular bluewater-capable cruising sailboat designed by Brazilian naval architect Roberto Barros (B&G Yacht Design / Roberto Barros Yacht Design). Introduced around 1992, it's one of the most successful designs in his "Multichine" series for amateur builders—dozens built worldwide by first-timers and pros alike, often in plywood/epoxy ("plyglass") construction with multi-chine hulls (typically 3–4 chines for a rounded, low-drag shape that's easier and stronger than hard-chine but simpler than true round-bilge). It's renowned for exceptional detail in plans (allowing no-experience builders to complete an ocean-going boat), simplicity, seaworthiness, and performance—narrow waterline for easy motion, reserve buoyancy when heeled, and good light/medium wind capability. Owners highlight its stability, comfortable motion, and suitability for single/short-handed ocean sailing or extended coastal cruising. Many examples (e.g., Brazilian builds from 2000 onward) have logged serious miles, with YouTube channels like S/Y Vagamundo documenting solo voyages and maintenance.
