NACRA 5.8
Description
The NACRA 5.8 is a high-performance beach catamaran designed by Roy Seaman and built by NACRA (USA) starting in 1982. It was produced through the 1980s (with some continued builds or replicas later), succeeding the popular NACRA 5.2 as a larger, more powerful evolution in the NACRA lineup. Around 1,000–2,000 hulls were made (exact numbers vary by source), creating one of the larger one-design fleets for its era, especially in Australia and the US. It's a twin-daggerboard cat with a rotating mast, full-battened mainsail (often with significant roach), and trapeze for two crew—optimized for speed, upwind efficiency, and exciting performance in moderate-to-strong winds. The design builds on the 5.2's plumb bows and tunable rig but adds length, sail area, and stability for better all-around racing and recreational use.
