NACRA 6
Description
The NACRA 6.0 (often stylized as NACRA 6.0 or Nacra 6.0) is a high-performance beach catamaran designed by Roy Seaman and built by NACRA (USA) starting in 1988. It was developed as an evolution of the NACRA 5.8 series, with a focus on extreme racing—famously dominating the Worrell 1000 offshore endurance race for several years in the late 1980s/early 1990s. Production was limited (fewer hulls than the 5.2 or 5.8), making it a cult classic among multihull racers. It's a twin-daggerboard cat with a rotating mast, full-battened mainsail (significant roach for power), and trapeze for two crew—built for speed, upwind pointing, and heavy-air endurance rather than casual daysailing. The boat excels in moderate-to-strong winds: flies a hull early, planes/surfs aggressively downwind, and handles big breeze with skill (though it's demanding and capsize-prone for novices). It's more powerful and stable than the NACRA 5.8 (longer waterline, more sail area) but retains the responsive, low-drag daggerboard feel. Many are still raced in vintage fleets or as "all-out racers," with owners praising its ocean-racing pedigree and fun factor.
