Description
The Najad 440 (also known as Najadvarvet Najad 440, with variants like Najad 440-1 for the earlier series and later Najad 440 AC/CC models) is a premium Swedish bluewater cruising sailboat built by Najadvarvet AB (Najad Yachts) in Henån, Orust, Sweden. The original series (often designated Najad 440-1) was designed in-house by Najad (yard design team), produced from 1986 to 1995, featuring solid fiberglass (GRP) construction with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder, robust build quality, and emphasis on seaworthiness for serious offshore use; production quantities for this early version are not precisely documented but appear moderate (likely 100+ hulls based on the decade-long run and comparisons to similar Najads). Later evolutions (Najad 440 AC aft-cockpit and CC center-cockpit from ~2005–2017) were designed by Judel/Vrolijk & Co., sharing similar hull principles but with updated features like optional shallow draft, higher comfort levels, and modern refinements; these were built in smaller numbers as part of Najad's premium lineup. All versions are renowned for exceptional Scandinavian craftsmanship, luxurious teak interiors (typically 2-3 cabins with 6-8 berths, spacious galley, heads, and excellent storage/tankage), stable and balanced performance, large cockpits (especially in CC for protection), bright saloons, and proven bluewater credentials as comfortable, reliable passage makers.
