Nautor Swan 43 Ketch
Description
The Nautor Swan 43 Ketch (also known as the Nautor 43 Ketch or Swan 43 Motorsailer variant) is a robust Finnish bluewater motorsailer built by Nautor Oy (Nautor Swan) in Jakobstad (Pietarsaari), Finland, designed by the renowned American firm Sparkman & Stephens (S&S design #2239). Production ran from the mid-1970s to around 1979, with a limited run of 24 hulls constructed in solid fiberglass (GRP) featuring a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for stability and protection, available in both sloop and ketch configurations (the ketch rig was offered for easier handling under sail or power in varied conditions, particularly appealing for motorsailing). It emphasizes heavy displacement for seaworthiness, exceptional Scandinavian build quality with luxurious teak interiors (typically center cockpit layout, 2-3 cabins with 6-8 berths, spacious saloon/galley/heads, and ample tankage/storage for extended cruising), a masthead ketch rig for balanced performance and reduced weather helm, strong offshore capabilities, and a reputation as a comfortable, reliable passagemaker influenced by the era's motorsailer trends (some hulls later inspired designs like the Nauticat 43).
