Nemah (Leg O'Mutton Sprit Rig)

Nemah (Leg O'Mutton Sprit Rig)

Description

The Nemah (Leg O'Mutton Sprit Rig) is a variant of the Nemah Sharpie Skiff, a small, simple wooden daysailer/rowboat designed by Tracy O'Brien (a Pacific Northwest boat designer known for sharpie-style craft). The Nemah is a 14-foot flat-bottomed sharpie hull (sometimes listed around 14–15 ft depending on build variations), featuring plywood construction (typically 1/4" sides and bottom), a stable, shallow-draft platform suitable for beaching, rowing, or small outboard (up to 5 hp), and capacity for 2–3 people. The Leg O'Mutton Sprit Rig (also called leg-o'-mutton sprit or LOM sprit) is a minimalist, traditional fore-and-aft sail setup: a triangular mainsail (resembling a leg of mutton) hoisted on a short unstayed mast, with a diagonal sprit boom extending from near the mast base to the peak/clew for tension and shape—loose-footed, easy to rig/store, and efficient for light-to-moderate winds with minimal hardware (one halyard, one sheet).
