New Zealand 45

New Zealand 45

Description

The New Zealand 45 is a performance-oriented American fiberglass cruiser-racer designed by renowned naval architect Gary Mull (known for designs like the Newport series and Ranger yachts). Built in limited numbers in 1984 by New Zealand Yachts in Whangārei, New Zealand (out of production), only 5 hulls were constructed in solid fiberglass (GRP) with a fin keel and spade rudder for responsive handling and good upwind ability. It emphasizes a spacious, comfortable interior for extended coastal or offshore cruising (typically 2–3 cabins with 6–8 berths, generous galley, heads, nav station, and ample tankage/storage), masthead sloop rig, and solid seaworthiness with excellent stability—praised for generous accommodations, strong seakeeping, and balanced performance in varied conditions, though rare due to the short run.
